Isle of Wight Closes Season with Presentation Evening, Launches 4-Division Winter League with 16 Young Players

Isle of Wight – On September 4th, the Isle of Wight Table Tennis Association held its annual Presentation Evening, celebrating a year of competitive action and outlining future plans. The event drew players, organizers, families, and table tennis enthusiasts across the island. Association Chairman Alex Rorke thanked organizers Pat Thorley, Paul Cates, Tim Giles, and Peter Clarke for their meticulous preparation. He emphasized that behind-the-scenes efforts are the backbone that sustains the league system and community activities throughout the year. A highlight of the evening was the trophy presentation by Mike Turner, a Division One player, who awarded champions and runners-up of the Winter League and internal cup competitions. Having an active top-division player present the trophies provided extra encouragement to young players and symbolized the connection between generations. One of the most noteworthy figures was the 16 under-16 players registered for the upcoming Winter League. The association praised this as “a positive sign for the future,” reflecting effective youth development. The new Winter League will feature four divisions to ensure balanced competition and provide suitable playing environments for all levels. The association also confirmed that a team of eight players will represent Isle of Wight at the International Island Games, due to take place in the Faroe Islands at the end of the season. This offers a valuable opportunity for local players to compete internationally and gain experience. The growth in young players, expanded competition structure, and international ambitions are encouraging.
